The Newman Guide 1.0 is the entire publication of "The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College" produced as an iPhone App with the assistance of the iPieta team (www.ipieta.com).

The 2010-2011 Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College is a resource to help you choose a Catholic college.  The Newman Guide recommends 21 colleges for their strong Catholic identity plus eight unique, online and international programs.

The information about colleges can be accessed by either the colleges or by categories (e.g., academics, student life, etc.).

In addition to full profiles of the recommended colleges, The Guide includes a foreword by Father Benedict Groeschel, and a series of essays including:

• “Finding God on a Catholic Campus” by Fr. C. John McCloskey III

• “Why Study Philosophy and Theology” by Peter Kreeft

• “Can You Afford a Catholic Education” by Phil Lenahan

• “What’s So Catholic About Campus Living” by Kathryn Jean Lopez

• “The Value of a Catholic Education” by Eileen Cubanski

Also included are selected Church documents which are especially relevant for college students and their families. The Newman Guide and these documents can be searched.

The Newman Guide 1.0 also has a sampling of photographs of the colleges. The web links to the colleges are listed in the "Search" tab so the college web sites can be browsed from within the application.

Text size, font and color, as well as the background color can be customized in Settings section of the Search Tab. There are special navigation features as well as navigation options in Settings as explained in the succinct Help files.

Errors or omissions, if any, are the responsibility of the editors and will be corrected in the online edition of this publication at TheNewmanGuide.com.

Although the colleges recommended in The Newman Guide are examples of faithful Catholic colleges, the editors do not intend to suggest that other institutions are not fully Catholic as recognized under the authority of the Catholic bishops. Nevertheless, it is apparent that there is a genuine crisis on many other Catholic campuses. We ask that readers pray for the work of Pope Benedict and our bishops to renew Catholic higher education through the intercession of our patron John Henry Cardinal Newman.
